Amy Dowden is our visionary Founder & Principal Director, expertly balancing her leadership of the studio with rehearsals, tours, and TV appearances. As a professional on Strictly Come Dancing, she is deeply committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of dancers, drawing from her vast experience in the industry.
Amy began dancing at the age of eight, quickly excelling in Ballroom and Latin dance. She became the British National Latin Champion, a four-time British National Finalist, an Ultimate World Cup Challenge Finalist, a BDF Star Championship winner, and a ten-time Welsh Open Champion alongside her husband, Ben Jones. On Strictly, Amy has partnered with a range of celebrities, including Brian Conley, Danny John-Jules, Karim Zeroual, JJ Chalmers, Tom Fletcher, James Bye, and JB Gill. In 2019, she reached the final with Karim, further cementing her reputation as one of the show’s most respected professionals. Her choreography and teaching abilities have earned widespread acclaim for their creativity, precision, and flair.
In recognition of her exceptional dedication to raising awareness of Crohn’s disease, Amy was awarded an MBE. Living with the condition herself, she has become a passionate advocate, using her platform for charity work, media appearances, and public speaking to support and educate others. Amy’s story was poignantly shared in her BBC documentary, Strictly Amy: Crohn’s and Me, which received critical praise for shedding light on invisible illnesses.
A familiar TV presence, Amy has also appeared on BBC Breakfast, This Morning, Lorraine, and The One Show. Additionally, her incredible speed and precision were recognised when she achieved a Guinness World Record for the most Jive kicks and flicks in 30 seconds, adding another remarkable achievement to her already impressive career.
Ben Jones is also Principal Director of Art In Motion. Bringing vibrant personality and intricate precision and technique to classes, he inspires our students to be the best they can be. Ben also appears with the support dancers on Strictly Come Dancing in group numbers. Starting his dancing journey at age 14, he has since gone on to become 4 x British National Closed Finalist, World Open Semi-Finalist, Crowned the British National Champion in 2016, and Vice Professional Latin UK Champion. As well as this, he has been a part of numerous professional shows and tours.
Katie Wallis is one of our fantastic teachers, bringing our students the confidence and encouragement to help them shine. Starting in the dance world young, she has gone on to become a competitive dancer, achieving titles such as Champions of Tomorrow, Stars of the Future and the UK Closed Championships.
You’ll see her at the studio in most of our children and adult’s classes. Katie also loves teaching private lessons from beginners and social dancers to competitive couples and soloists.
Katie is in charge of training our formation teams who are currently in the high rankings in the UK and has also trained many All-Girl Partnerships who have become UK champions and finalists.
She also has a BA (Hons) in dance which has furthered her knowledge and passion, both as a dancer and a teacher.
